The national rail operator, TransNamib, signed a memorandum of understanding with Botswana Railways earlier this week.

According to the agency during a press briefing held in Gaborone, Johny Smith, managing director of TransNamib, said the memorandum of understanding was the beginning of fruitful and beneficial relations for the development of trade between the two economies.
Leornard Makwinja, General Manager of the Botswana Railways, said that the memorandum of understanding allowed Botswana to take advantage of the railway infrastructure in Namibia as well as an in-depth knowledge of the ports sector. dry.
The Memorandum of Understanding will have a duration of 9 years, during which time the parties will explore and agree on substantive conditions for the exercise of container terminal activities.
Makwinja said the dry port was important to provide an alternative means of transport for cargo from Walvis Bay port in Namibia to Botswana and other destinations in the SADC region.
