Valentino is organizing his first pre-fall exhibition for men and women today in Tokyo – Watch it live here

Do you remember when the season before the autumn was a sober season in rendezvous in the exhibition halls? In other words, things have changed! After the success of Resort's many "destination shows," it may have been a matter of time before global brands like Valentino, Dior Homme, Coach 1941 and Versace planned similar productions for Pre-Fall. . (Chanel, of course, showed his Art Trades collections during the years leading up to the fall.) Today, Pierpaolo Piccioli of Valentino is giving the kickoff to a marathon of great pre-fall shows, most of which do not even take place on this side of the globe. Piccioli chose Tokyo, Japan, to debut with his new men's and women's collections before the fall, marking his first mixed show. Later this week, Kim Jones will also be hosting his Dior Homme Pre-Fall show in Tokyo (a pre-fall parade specifically dedicated to men's clothing is an even bigger surprise), and next weekend Stuart Vevers will show his coach – Fall collections in Shanghai, China.

It's a lot of firsts, but it's not really Valentino's first gig in Tokyo. In 1982, Valentino Garavani joined Sonia Rykiel, Norma Kamali, Kansai Yamamoto and Hanae Mori in Tokyo for a special show titled "The Best Five Years"; at the time, The New York Times wrote that it was "an attempt. . . to give its place in Tokyo alongside Milan, London, Paris and New York, where current collections have been introduced, as the main center of fashion ". Thirty-six years later, Tokyo is certainly on this list; It is now a market of choice for most luxury brands and is the basis of fashion and retail trends. But if you can not make the trip, you can have a glimpse of the action by watching the live Valentino broadcast here. It's from 8 pm local time, or 6 pm EST – and even if you do not get up before dawn to see it, the flow will continue to loop all day. Check back later for Hamish Bowles' review, as well as for a fuller coverage of the show by Vogue Runway.
