Zimbabwean Vice President Constantino Chiwenga is in India where he is undergoing medical treatment, according to media reports. A statement from the online news agency ZimLive announced Wednesday that the 62 year old retired army general had flown away by private jet on May 18th.
A source told ZimLive that Chiwenga "has been sick for at least two weeks before his last airlift".
This is the second time that the Vice President travels to India for medical treatment. He had gone for the last time in February in New Delhi, the Indian capital, for treatment for what one minister had called a "minor abdominal disease."
Chiwenga and his wife, Mary, also lost their skin pigmentation, a condition they noticed after leading a coup that overthrew former president Robert Mugabe in November 2017.
Speculation about his health was revived this week after missing the Cabinet Tuesday.
Neither was he present during Wednesday's swearing-in of Zimbabwe's new energy minister, Fortune Chasi, at State House. His co-vice president Kembo Mohadi was present.
The Ministry of Information has not issued a statement on the whereabouts of the vice president.
