According to the Henley Pbadport Index, a Japanese pbadport allows access to as many countries as possible in 2019 – its citizens can travel without a visa to 190 countries around the world.
In second place were two other Asian countries, Singapore and South Korea, whose citizens can visit 189 destinations without a visa.
Of the European pbadports, Germany and France rank first, ranking third with 188 destinations, but Germany retreated from second place that it occupied. 39, last year.
The United States and the United Kingdom continued to plummet in the Henley Pbadport Index – based on reliable data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) – and now occupy 6th place, with access to 185 destinations . This is a significant decrease compared to the leading position occupied by these countries in 2015.
Denmark, Finland, Italy and Sweden are now in fourth place, while Spain and Luxembourg are in fifth place.
The other European countries represented in the top 10 were Austria, Portugal, Switzerland, Belgium, Greece, Ireland, the Czech Republic, Malta and Iceland.
The lowest ranked pbadport in Europe is Kosovo, ranked 94th, just behind Djibouti and Burundi.
China, Colombia, Tuvalu and the United Arab Emirates were the biggest climbers, all five places.
Iraq and Afghanistan remain at the bottom of the rankings, with access to only 30 visa-free destinations, as they have done for a good part of the 14 years of the index.
According to the ranking, global mobility is rising – citizens, on average, could go visa-free to 107 countries in 2018, which rose from 58 in 2006.
