Nigeria's wrestlers crowned a brilliant outing at the 2018 Youth Games of the United States by winning seven more medals – including five silver and two bronze – in the men's event freestyle cadet on the last day of competition. In addition to the 12 medals (three gold, five silver and four bronze) previously won by the Women's Wrestling and Greco Roman team, the youths finally brought back 19 medals for the Nigeria team.

Sariki Kelvin (45kg), Ozutu Lina (48kg) and Nnaemeka Kenechukwu (65kg) all won silver medals for Nigeria on Friday, while Ogidi Perediegha (51kg) and Ladoja Idowu (110 kg), who had already won the bronze medal in Greco-Roman. Okafor Ikechukwu (55kg) and Stephen Tope (60kg) both qualified for the bronze medal.

Reacting to their performance at the Games, the president of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation Hon. Daniel Igali said that the future is promising for the sport in the country, adding that the results are in line with the objectives of the federation.

"We are now comfortable knowing that we have a crop of athletes who, in the next four years, will be able to replace some of our aging athletes who may be retiring in the next few years, "said the Olympic champion.

" I think the federation wants the junior and cadet athletes to be ready to replace the aging athletes, is on course, and we remain very grateful to God for to ensure that these athletes went to Algiers, competed without injury and did well for themselves, their families and the country. "
