The Civil Air Patrol is a non-profit corporation and is also the auxiliary service of the Air Force. Civil Air Patrol volunteers perform search and rescue missions, badist the Air Force as required, and badist disaster relief missions.

The cadets of the ACP are progressing at their own pace through a 16-step program including aerospace education, moral leadership. Cadets compete for scholarships to pursue studies in fields such as engineering, science, aeronautical mechanics, aerospace medicine, meteorology, and more.

Cadets who achieve the rank of cadet officer may enter the E3 (Airman First Clbad) rather than an E1 (Basic Airman).
Stratton Air National Guard Base is the home of the 109th Airlift Wing. The wing flies the world's largest skis-equipped aircraft, the LC-130, and provides research support in Antarctica and Greenland.
