Southaven, Mississippi – A young boy took to the sidewalk of Lewisburg High School in Olive Branch, Mississippi on Sunday to pay his respects to Memphis Police Officer Darrell Adams.

Zechariah Cartledge, through her nonprofit Running 4 Heroes, travels a mile to pay tribute to first responders who die in the line of duty.

Cartledge was already in Granada, Mississippi, for first responders, when he heard the news of Adams’ death.

Before returning home to Central Florida, Cartledge decided to run an extra mile for Adams.

Adams, 34, died near I-40 and North Watkins St. in Memphis on Sunday while the officer was working at the scene of an accident, according to the Memphis Police Department.

In this scene, Adams was struck by an 18-wheeled vehicle, killing him at the crash site, police said.

A statement on the Running 4 Heroes Facebook page says:

“Our prayer is that the race has honored him well and that we never forget his more than 5 years of service to his community.”

So far, Cartledge has traveled 245 miles for fallen first responders in 2021, part of the total 1,022 miles he has covered in their honor.
