Brazos County reports 7 deaths from COVID-19, 71 residents hospitalized

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – The Brazos County Health District reported 108 additional positive cases of COVID-19 in Brazos County. Currently, there are 1,639 active cases.

Seven new deaths have been reported in the past 24 hours, two men hospitalized in their 50s, a man hospitalized in his 60s, a man hospitalized in his 70s, a man in his 80s at home, a woman hospitalized in his 80 years old and a woman in her 90s at home. There have been 148 total deaths in Brazos County linked to COVID-19.

11,699 patients are classified as cured, meaning that they did not have a fever for 72 hours without fever medication, 10 days after the onset of symptoms.

24 percent of new confirmed cases are in the 18-24 age group.

There have been 2,601 probable cases in Brazos County since June 18, 2020. A probable case of COVID-19 is determined by a positive antigen test. Confirmed cases of COVID-19 are determined by a positive PCR test. The health district is investigating all confirmed and probable cases.

There are currently 371 active probable cases and 2,230 recovered probable cases.

The total number of confirmed positive cases in the county since testing began is 13,486. There have been 137,889 tests performed.

The total occupancy rate of hospital beds in Brazos County is 86% and the total occupancy rate of intensive care beds is 127%.

Currently, 71 residents of Brazos County are hospitalized with COVID-19.

National Trauma Service Area N

Most of the Brazos Valley falls under the N State Trauma Service Area (Brazos, Burleson, Grimes, Leon, Madison, Robertson and Washington counties). Trauma service area N currently reports 581 staffed hospital beds and 63 available beds. According to the latest state data, the region has 1 intensive care beds and 54 ventilators available. The latest state update listed 153 lab-confirmed COVID-19 patients currently in hospital.

Texas A&M University

The Texas A&M COVID-19 Dashboard reported 45 new cases and 383 active cases on January 9.

Currently, the university has reported 4,890 positive cases, 7.2% of tests come back positive.

The last update to the dashboard was provided on January 11, 2021.

Statewide, Texas has approximately 355,296 active cases and 1,568,710 recoveries. There were 1,969,240 total cases and 17,148,226 total tests (viral and antibodies).

To date, 29,933 Texans have died from COVID-19.

Currently, 718,965 Texans have been vaccinated with at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and 83,538 Texans have been fully vaccinated. Across Texas, 1,580,400 doses have been shipped.

254 of the 254 counties in the state of Texas are currently reporting cases. Harris County leads the state in total cases with 262,525 reported cases.
