Johnny Manziel's content this week has been quite strange, as it was not only published by the Montreal Alouettes, but excluded from the CFL for unspecified reasons, calling a fake ESPN journalist who claimed to have him. talked about this publication. And now, Manziel's wife, Bre Tiesi-Manziel, is the subject of news after being accused of cheating during a half marathon. Andrew Joseph from For The Win:
Bre Tiesi-Manziel, wife of Manziel, is a model of fitness and Instagram. She recently participated in the Run Like A Diva Half Marathon in Temecula, California, and finished the race with a time of 1:58:22 with zero practice, she said. According to the Houston Chronicle, the average time of a woman running a half marathon is about 2:19 and a step of more than 10 minutes per mile.
Tiesi-Manziel's average of 9:09 per mile would be impressive but not unknown – the problem for her came after a look at her milestone splits.
Tiesi-Manziel crossed the six-mile mark in 13:31:29 (14 minutes). Her 11-mile update was missing, but she managed to reach the finish line at 1:58:22 with her running partner. For this to be possible, Tiesi-Manziel should have traveled the last 6.7 miles at a rate of four minutes per mile.
As Joseph notes, the 1km female world record is 4: 12.56, set by Svetlana Masterkova in 1996. And the women's world record of 10km (6.21miles) is 4: 42.6 per kilometer. There is absolutely no way for Tiesi-Manziel to have crossed this distance for six consecutive miles after being much slower at the start of the race. But she still tried to defend her time in a series of Instagram posts that have been deleted since, as Deadspin's Patrick Redford notes:
Tiesi-Manziel commented at length on LetsRun's report on Twitter and Instagram. She blamed her "sad and pathetic" accusers for questioning her time, and said that even though she did not train specifically for the half-marathon, "I am a full-time athlete. that I train every year … everyone who knows me knows that I hate cardio. "
Time and time again she points out that her run supported a charity and that she was more concerned with encouraging people than "trying to spend amazing time." The only time she addressed the specific inconsistencies with her splits, she asserts that no one was "[ever] wait at each station to check each marker so that this "unrecognized" time is a joke. "
It is possible that this is not an intentional error on the part of Tiesi-Manziel. The Redford post mentions a seemingly late change of course and suggests that Tiesi-Manziel and his running partner, Khloe Terae, might have forgotten that they were supposed to run a second loop on part of the road. And even if it was intentional cheating, it's far from the first time it's happening. But it's quite something to really see Manziel's wife at the news for his alleged cheating during a half marathon during the week he was mysteriously released and banned from the CFL.
