BREAKING: Biden administrator to make vaccination mandatory for all active-duty soldiers

US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin is likely to make COVID-19 vaccines mandatory for all active-duty troops this week. It comes after President Joe Biden asked the military to consider how and when to get there on July 29.

The Pentagon’s decision on how to proceed could come this week, several officials said. The Pentagon has said troops could be among the first to receive mandatory vaccines ahead of upcoming deployments, according to CNN.

They have previously said they would like to wait for FDA approval despite pressure from Biden for higher vaccination levels that could lead them to seek a presidential waiver.

Pending a presidential waiver, troops could receive the vaccine before full approval from the Food and Drug Administration.

A memorandum from the Department of Justice dated July 6 stated that “because the DOD informed us that it naturally did not want to pass on inaccurate or confusing information to members of the service, that is to say to tell them that ‘they had the “option” to refuse the COVID-19 vaccine if they actually lack such an option due to a military order – the DOD should seek a presidential waiver before imposing a vaccination requirement. “

Austin consulted with military medical authorities, said a defense official, who added that he “[seeks] authorization to make it compulsory. The move comes after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported a 64% increase in COVID-19 cases nationwide over the past week, Fox News reported.

Austin said “we will not let the grass grow under our feet. The president has asked us to do something and we will take care of it.”

Biden announced last week that federal vaccine workers may be subject to strict protocols, including regular testing, masking and other mitigation measures.
