British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has criticized anti-vaxxers and said he has no hesitation in getting the vaccine himself, adding that everyone should get the vaccine once it is available.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, Johnson urged all Britons to get vaccinated against the coronavirus and took the opportunity to castigate the anti-vax movement, which is growing in the UK.
“Anti-vax is total nonsense; you absolutely must get vaccinated, ” he said.
The Prime Minister added that he did not have “Inhibitions” to get the jab itself, and strongly encouraged people in the UK to do the same as soon as they are eligible. Johnson also explained that a committee would decide who would be eligible for the vaccine first.
Earlier in the year, Johnson described those who opposed vaccinations as “nuts.”
Tory MP and House of Commons Leader Jacob Rees-Mogg echoed the Prime Minister’s sentiments on Thursday, calling anti-vaxxers a “Crazy” because he claimed that the government’s high spending on Covid communications was imperative “Reassure people” on vaccine safety.
As elsewhere in the world, the UK has experienced a number of anti-vaccination theories and protests. In October, around 2,000 people gathered in Westminster to spread their potentially dangerous anti-vaccine message. The crowds sang “We don’t need vaccination” to the tune of Another Brick In The Wall by Pink Floyd.
A poll published by Britain’s Daily Mail this week found that 74% of those polled would be happy to take the vaccine, while 7% said they would not receive it under any circumstances.
The pro and anti-vaccine debate intensified in the UK this week, following Pfizer’s announcement on Monday that their formula was 90% effective against Covid.

The Prime Minister’s comments come as the UK looks set to receive 10 million doses of the Pfizer jab before the end of the year. Despite delays in AstraZeneca trials, the British pharmaceutical giant may also have approval for its vaccine in the UK before 2021.
The UK government has said vaccinations against Covid-19 will not be mandatory.
