BROCKTON (CBS) – A Brockton police officer was shot four times and two men died after a standoff lasting several hours on Thursday evening.
Police were called to a house on Taber Avenue with a report of gunfire at around 5:45 pm While police investigated, another man was found dead from gunshot wounds inside the building. ‘a silver SUV parked near the house. The suspect then barricaded himself inside the house for several hours. A SWAT team was called and the police negotiated with him. He finally got out around 9:30 p.m. and then shot himself in the head, according to Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz. The unidentified man was rushed to hospital where he died.
Shaun Banion told WBZ-TV that he has known the man since they were children.
“I was with his dad for a little while and they were negotiating back and forth and from what I understood the negotiators actually said he was on the outside. So I was happy, it was about to end peacefully. I kept praying left and right, come out, surrender, you know you are going to go to jail, but you will still be alive. You don’t have to come out on bad terms, to kill yourself, ”he said.
No information has yet been released on the man found dead in the car outside the house. Police do not believe it was a random shooting.

Brockton Mayor Robert Sullivan said he and Police Chief Manny Gomes would visit the injured officer in hospital on Friday.
“It also shows the serious nature of law enforcement, we have very courageous men and women who serve Brockton Police every day,” said Mayor Sullivan.
