Bryce Young is ‘Russell Wilson on steroids’ according to California scout

Since the start of the decade, Alabama has quickly become a hub for the production of excellent quarterbacks. Whether it’s Jalen Hurts, Tua Tagovailoa or Mac Jones, all three have had immense success with the Crimson Tide and are poised to have long careers to the next level.

The next quarterback expected to join this elite career group is five-star rookie Bryce Young from California. Since signing with the Crimson Tide, there has been a lot of hype around the young quarterback, with many believing he has the potential to be the top of the pack.

A college football scout thinks he even has other gear for him and has compared him to great college footballer Johnny Manziel.

“Put simply, Bryce is a unique player at quarterback unlike anyone Alabama has never played for college,” Keith Smith of Showcase Football said during an appearance on In My Own Words. “But very similar to a guy they probably had nightmares about, speaking of none other than Johnny Manziel, who came to Tuscaloosa and put an ‘L’ on that Roll Tide team a few years ago. So Bryce Young is a unique talent and he’s definitely going to be doing special things in Tuscaloosa.

If Alabama were to have the next Johnny Manziel on their hands, that would bode well for the Tide, especially with the success they have had in the SEC and more specifically against the Crimson Tide.

Smith wasn’t done making comparisons when he appeared on the podcast, as he even connected Young’s game with one of the NFL’s elite quarterbacks to Russell Wilson. But he even went further with his formulation of the native of California.

“His composure as a young player will stand out early for Alabama fans,” Smith said. “It’s not a kid who gets shaken all the time. I saw him at 20, I saw him at 14 (he’s the) same player. Never too high, never too low just someone who absolutely personalized the quarterback position. You really have never seen anything like it.

“I compare him to Russell Wilson on steroids.”

Comparisons like these will only make Alabama’s next spring game even more anticipated to see what the future Crimson Tide caller can do.
