BUCKS COUNTY – COVID-19 vaccination clinics will open next week at all three campuses of Bucks County Community College, county officials said Thursday.
Clinics will be open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday to Saturday, on the Bristol, Newtown and East Rockhill Township campuses, by appointment only. Each clinic will administer 200 doses per day, available to people who fall into phase 1A and have registered through the county’s pre-registration site, according to Audrey Kenny, interim director of emergency management services.
County officials announced the clinics at a press conference on Thursday, where they also spoke of the lingering frustrations of residents who were eagerly awaiting their turn for the first dose of the vaccine. Commissioners said the biggest barrier to residents getting the COVID-19 vaccine is the lack of supplies.
“We are doing all we can,” Commissioner Diane Ellis-Marseglia said at a press conference on Thursday. “We cannot get vaccine vials that have not yet been manufactured.”
The county also has a contract with a company called AMI Expeditionary Healthcare, which provides the county with registry office assistance and clinical support, Kenny said.
About 86% of the vaccine doses that enter the county went to pharmacies and hospitals, not the county itself, said Commissioner Bob Harvie.
“The frustration is that the state has expanded eligibility for 1A without having enough vaccine available,” Bucks County Director of Health David Damsker said. “It’s frustrating for everyone. If people are angry about it, I understand, people are afraid, but we can only give the number of vaccines we have. We are giving out as many as we can. “
The county recorded on average less than 200 new cases of coronavirus per day last week, the lowest number since November, while COVID-related deaths and hospitalizations also continue to decline, Damsker noted.
A total of 1,071 people have died in Bucks County from COVID-19, according to the state’s health department. State immunization figures show 34,740 people received partial immunizations in the county, the fourth highest county in the state.
The state earlier this week launched a new tool called YourTurn to help residents find their place in the queue.
