The number of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in Bucks County continued to rise over the past week.
The county recorded 1,099 new COVID-19 infections last week, according to data from the Pennsylvania Department of Health. The number of new cases was an increase from the previous week and a dramatic increase from the 46 cases reported in the first week of July.
There were 230 new cases last Tuesday, which was the highest number of new cases in a single day since April.
The COVID-19 test positivity rate in Bucks County fell from 5.5% to 7.1%. A test positive rate of over 5% means that health experts consider the spread to be out of control.
Data showed hospitalizations of COVID-19 patients in Bucks County reached levels last seen in May, but the numbers weren’t nearly as high as they were in the winter .
As of Monday, Bucks County had 55 people hospitalized with COVID-19 and 10 of them in intensive care. The numbers were about double those at the start of the month.
No Bucks Countians died from COVID-19 in the past week. As of the end of last week, seven local residents had died from COVID-19 in August, a lower rate than in August 2020.
Vaccinations continued last week with more than 50% of Bucks Countians fully vaccinated, according to the county health department.
State data showed 40,123 Bucks Countians were partially vaccinated and 320,307 fully vaccinated at the start of this week.
Vaccinations were relatively stable last week over the previous seven-day period, but the number of vaccines administered was higher than in early July. The vast majority of COVID-19 vaccinations in the county have taken place in the spring.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 64,733 cases of COVID-19 in Bucks County and 1,342 deaths.
