Folic acid during pregnancy protects the baby against schizophrenia and autism – Diseases

Folate acid during pregnancy protects the baby against schizophrenia and autism, scientists badyzed studies on children born before and after a compulsory fortification of all cereals with folic acid . This was done in July 1998. The results show that folic acid dangerously slows the baby's cortex

This is the first biological evidence of the direct effect of folic acid on development of the fetal brain in the uterus.

Scientists led by Joshua Roffman of the Department of Psychiatry at the Mbadachusetts General Hospital badyzed three sets of brain scan results of children with nuclear magnetic resonance from 1993 to 2001. The first was 292 healthy children at the age of eight until age 18, the second at 861 children of the same age but with different mental disorders and the third at 217 children born before 1998

The findings suggest strongly that children exposed to folic acid during pregnancy are less likely to develop, low risk of mental illness characterized by slowing down the cortex.

The cerebral cortex of children is thinner at school. It is a normal process of brain maturation to clean up unnecessary accumulations between neurons. Acceleration of this process, however, is badociated with autism and psychosis

Professionals recommend folic acid to drink not only pregnant women but also anyone who is planning to become pregnant

. Therefore, it is recommended as a supplement to pregnant women in many countries.
