An advertisement showing the image of representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in flames was aired during the ABC Democratic debate in Houston on Thursday, prompting a sharp reaction from viewers.
The 30-second ad, from a Republican political group named New Faces GOP, features its founder, Elizabeth Heng, a former congressional candidate at the GOP in California, warning against liberal politicians who adhere to socialism.
"It's the face of socialism and ignorance," says Heng. A photo of Ocasio-Cortez flares up and burns to show heart-rending images of the Cambodian civil war in the 1970s, when his father fled.
"Does Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez know the horrors of socialism?" Pursues Heng. It appears that the advertisement was broadcast on at least one Sinclair station in the Washington, DC area.
Social media has been buzzing with criticism after the ad airs, many being unhappy that ABC has allowed it to be broadcast.

One of the most remarkable (and disturbing) aspects of #DemDebate did not concern any of the candidates on stage.
This was an ad posted by @ABC of a Democratic member of Congress having their picture engraved on the screen.@AOC must apologize.

An ABC News spokesperson did not immediately return a request for comment.
Ocaso-Cortez used Twitter to respond to the announcement.
"Republicans broadcast TV commercials setting photos of me to convince people that they are not racist." Life is strange! " Ocasio-Cortez wrote. Heng was a congressional candidate in 2018, competing for a seat representing the 16th Congressional District of California. She lost to Democrat Jim Costa by 15 percentage points.
New Faces GOP is registered in Fresno, California, and the Federal Election Commission's filings show that it has raised approximately $ 170,000 in the first half of the year.
On its website, the PAC says it was formed "because our country risks being destroyed by extremist socialist democrats who want to upset the American way of life. battle, we must find the new faces of the Republican party stand up to lead. "
