Fans disappointed by the end of HBO's hit series "Game of Thrones" may soon rejoice, as the wired network is about to order a pilot for a prequel based on the rise and fall of one. series most fascinating factions.
The proposed series would take place 300 years before the events of "Game of Thrones" and trace the origins of House Targaryen, the first family presented to fans of the original series in the form of the main character Daenerys Targaryen, reported Deadline. The pilot would be a fallout from one of the five pre-scripts that HBO had been sponsoring as "Game of Thrones" was approaching its conclusion. It is inspired by Martin's recent book, "Fire & Blood", which tells the story of House Targaryen in the universe of the series.
Martin wrote in a May post on his personal blog that "five different successive Game of Thrones issues" were in development. A pilot episode for at least one of these shows, starring actress Naomi Watts, has already finished production, said HBO's chief programming officer, Casey Bloys, in July.
"Game of Thrones" was one of the most successful series in HBO history, breaking audience records and racking up Emmy nominations. Although the last season's reviews were mixed, the final drew more than 19 million viewers on all platforms, according to HBO.
The series and its derivatives are expected to play a major role in WarnerMedia's next streaming service, HBO Max.
