Buy PS5 on Black Friday: Check Inventory Replenishment on Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, Target and More

This story is part of Holiday gift guide 2020, CNET’s Gift Picks with expert advice, reviews and recommendations for the latest tech gifts for you and your family.

the PS5 is, by far, the most popular article on Black friday. Sony’s latest console is sold out almost as soon as it is available on sites like Amazon, Best Buy, and GameStop. It will be a matter of luck if you are looking to buy one for the holidays.

As you may remember, Sony Playstation 5 officially arrived in the United States on November 12 with an online-only launch. It has since been out of stock at all the usual retailers including Walmart, Target, Amazon, GameStop, and Best Buy. This goes for both versions of the PS5. The digital $ 400 version and the $ 500 model with Blu-ray are both nearly impossible to get. (If you have good broadband and don’t need optical discs – for Blu-ray movies, used games, or older PS4 games – we recommend go with the $ 400 version.)

While most retailers have been fairly silent on when they expect to have units to sell, a few have been more outspoken. Walmart, for example, keeps customers informed via his Twitter feed pretty much exactly when it removes new inventory. Antonline does much the same on its own Twitter feed, but with less notice. Remember, you can get the console on its own from Walmart, but Antonline only sells bundles.

Right now, there is no indication of inventory at any of the major retailers, so your chances of scoring a console are not, shall we say, encouraging. Nonetheless, we’ll keep this page up to date with news on inventory drops. We’ve also put together a list of retailers who may restock the PS5 throughout 2020.

I think I speak for everyone when I say: Hi retailers, for the love of the PS5, please implement a Captcha system on your checkout page to ensure that only human beings order your products.

OK, you’ve exhausted all online and physical retailers, and you’ve decided to pay over $ 300 mark-up to get this puppy by Christmas. As a friend, we have to tell you: Do not do that. But if you don’t want to listen to us, you might want to check out StockX, an eBay alternative that’s made a name for itself in the aftermarket for sneakers and designer clothes. The last time we checked, the prices of the PS5 were hovering around $ 820.
