Takk McKinley (groin) sticking with Raiders on injured reserve

After weeks of floating in the abyss of the waiver thread, Takkarist McKinley finally has a home.

The defensive end is not canceled like he’s done twice before, but landing on the injured reserve with the Raiders and therefore, sticking to a team, by Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

“Takk McKinley won’t be traveling this week, but he’s a big part of our plans for the future,” Raiders coach Jon Gruden said Friday, via Jerry McDonald of the Oakland Tribune. “I just don’t know how far in the immediate future.”

McKinley was released by the Atlanta Falcons following his weeks-long efforts to get out of Atlanta. He was first claimed via waivers by the Cincinnati Bengals, but failed physically due to his persistent groin injury, then repeated the process with the San Francisco 49ers.

This time around, it looks like the former first-round pick will have a chance with a new team, but with a minimum of three weeks off the field to heal. It remains to be seen how long it will take the silver and black pitch.
