CAA to discuss potential class changes – The Daily Eastern News

The Academic Affairs Council will meet today in the Witters Boardroom in the Booth Library at 2 p.m.

There appears to be an error in the agenda for this meeting. The “Items to act on” section says “none”, but includes a list of three items.

If these actions relate to this meeting, the board will vote on revising the electronic writing portfolio requirements for the clinical laboratory science major.

This review was requested by Gary Bulla, the chair of the Department of Biological Sciences, as the EWP requirements are difficult for most students in this major to complete.

The final year of the Clinical Laboratory Science major is completed off-campus at an affiliated clinical hospital.

Additionally, students who pursue this major are often transferred to Eastern after completing their first two years at another institution. This means that most of these students only take courses at Eastern for one year, so it’s hard to find three essays that match the EWP requirements over just two semesters.

The board will also vote on revising the exit assessment requirements for the psychology major.

The psychology service has submitted a request for review which includes their justification for making changes.

“Our department is considering a more integrated assessment of psychology content

Knowledge, rather than the current single comprehensive exam administered in D2L

during a student’s last trimester before graduation, ”says the request.

The ministry said that the answers to a series of questions are not a good representation of what students in this major are learning.

There would still be a specific set of requirements for graduation, but the exit exam would be removed from this list.

They would also decide whether or not to approve a new course, CSM 3700: Computer Science Education.

Several items will be added to the agenda for the next meeting, including actions for four potential new classes.
