California: A woman dies after a man attacked her with an electric scooter, police say

A Californian woman was killed on Monday during a brutal attack by a man using an electric scooter as a weapon, police said.

Rosa Elena Hernandez, 63, of Long Beach, was attacked around 12:30. Monday, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Officials who responded to reports of an "assault with a deadly weapon" found Hernandez "seriously injured in the upper part of his torso" and determined that she had died on places.

Investigators believe that the man assaulted the victim and then used a motorized scooter as a weapon. The authorities did not specify whether the suspect had any connection with the woman.

"I've never heard anything like this either," a neighbor told KTTV. "We've been living here for years since 1993, and it's the first time something like this has happened."

The police spotted a person of interest a few hours after the incident. The man, who has not been publicly identified, was detained without incident and convicted of murder. He was held on bail of $ 2 million, the police said.
