This morning, Infinity Ward has published a blog detailing the operation of the crossover game in the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. First and foremost, players can choose whether or not to participate in cross-play. By opting for this solution, players will be able to meet their friends who play Modern Warfare on different consoles.
You will need a COD account for cross-games. This is necessary, but it will also allow players to form cross-platform games and a list of friends, which is an advantage.
One of the main concerns regarding cross play is the potential benefit of the controller. Those playing the keyboard and mouse, as opposed to a console controller, may have a slight advantage depending on the skill level of the player. But Infinity Ward makes sure that players can choose the controllers to use to play Call of Duty and the controllers they play against.
For example, Xbox One and PS4 players can play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare using a keyboard and mouse. You can also filter matches so that players join the lobbies reserved for controllers, or lobbies reserved for keyboards and mice. Or join parties without any restrictions on the controllers.
Finally, to ensure cross-play parity, Infinity Ward announced that it supports all the multiplayer modes of Modern Warfare. In addition, new multiplayer maps, new modes, new missions and more will be released at the same time on all three platforms.
Infinity Ward is still exclusively associated with the PS4, however, the players of the PS4 will have access to exclusive beta and alphas, as well as other unannounced exclusives.
