Call Of Duty: Vanguard’s First Gameplay Trailer Really Looks Like Call Of Duty

During Gamescom Opening Night Live, we got our first look at what to expect from the Call Of Duty: Vanguard campaign. Last week, Activision confirmed that the game will be set in an alternate WWII storyline, and the new footage from one of the opening missions follows a stealth sniper in Stalingrad. It’s dramatic, cinematic, and it really feels like a Call Of Duty game set during WWII. Take a peek in the trailer below.

The developers say Vanguard is a “whole new take” on WWII, which is an interesting way of talking about a historic event. They say it will tell the story of “the birth of special forces”, in which Laura Bailey plays a sniper named Polina Petrova.

In the trailer, we follow Polina who seems to have just regained consciousness in a semi-destroyed building. She makes her way through it to take out enemy soldiers, although it quickly becomes less stealthy when she finds a gun. Next, we see her outside doing a bit of Uncharted-esque platforming on the side of a building, before finding her signature weapon, a sniper rifle, to take out even more bad guys on the streets.

After that, there is fighting in narrow apartment halls, sneaking around spooky tanks, and then we go back in time a bit to catch German planes firing shots in the streets as Polina tries to s ‘escape.

It’s all very stealthy and rather cinematic – sometimes Polina runs around guns, others she’s a little sneaky. But overall, yeah, it’s kind of Call Of Duty there.

Call Of Duty: Vanguard is slated for release on November 5. Before that, you’ll be able to try it out in its cross-platform beta on September 18.

It should be noted with this news that the editors of COD Activision Blizzard are currently facing a lawsuit over their alleged toxic work culture. This week, the state of California claimed the company shredded documents relating to the ongoing investigation, allegedly interfering with the process.
