NORMAN – Head Coach of the University of Oklahoma, Lincoln Riley, announced Monday afternoon that he had designated Jalen Hurts as starting quarterback for the opening match of the Sooners season on September 1 against Houston.

A graduate of Alabama, Hurts started 14 games in each of Crimson Tide's 2016 and 2017 seasons. He played 13 games in 2018. He competed at three national university football championships and helped Alabama win the 2017 national title. UA went 41-3 in three seasons at Tuscaloosa.

Hurts led the Crimson Tide to a 26-2 record as a starter. In 2018, he played 13 fights, including the SEC Championship, when he replaced Tua Tagovailoa, injured, and beat the AU to a 35-28 win after being threatened by 28-21 after come into play in the fourth quarter.

Since Houston, Hurts holds Alabama's career record with 23 touchdowns and ranks second in school history among the quarterbacks with 1,976 career yards and 71 touchdowns. He had 7602 total offensive yards and 48 touchdowns, which is good for third place in AU history.
