One person died and three were taken to hospital after a small plane crash on the Sunshine Coast, BC

Firefighters confirmed that one person did not survive.

The other three who were in the plane at that time are in stable condition. Emergency health services said:

. It can be seen from CTV's Chopper 9 carrying stretchers in a nearby wooded area

In a message posted on Twitter, the Sunshine Coast RCMP confirmed that a small plane had crashed and that paramedics, firefighters and RCMP officers were all there. Two air ambulances were transported to the area in the event of serious injury.

The airport and the surrounding airspace were closed as crews reacted to the accident. Members of the public are asked to avoid the area until the scene is cleared
