1 dead, 3 injured in the morning accident in Barrie

According to the Ontario Provincial Police, three vehicles collided shortly after 2:00 am in the northbound lanes of Highway 400 near Essa Road. Two of the vehicles caught fire.

A person, who would be in one of the vehicles that burned, was declared dead on the scene. Three others were taken to a local hospital with non-fatal injuries.

The first vehicle may have stalled in the construction zone

Const. Lauren Ball, spokeswoman for the Ontario Provincial Police's Highway Safety Division, said the police are not ready to disclose the identity of the deceased because the police Identification should last several days

The northbound lanes of Highway 400 were closed for about six hours while police were investigating the crash, while the south lanes were closed for about two hours. All tracks have been reopened since then.

The police are still investigating.
