Investigators found a flammable substance in a backpack on board the bus, but not explosive.

The incident began when the badailant driver Ulla Hingst said at a press conference Friday evening in Lübeck

that the driver told the investigators that he had stopped the bus and opened all the doors to let the pbadengers out after noticing the fire in his rearview mirror.

He then returned to find out what was happening and was struck by the badailant, Hingst said. As the suspect left the bus, he stabbed people around him with a 5-inch kitchen knife. The attacker was restrained by the pbadengers outside the vehicle and then quickly stopped by the police nearby.

Five of the victims were still hospitalized Friday night

The suspect is a 34-year-old man who lives in the area. Hingst says that he is a long-time German citizen who was born in Iran.

"Nothing indicates that the man was politically radicalized," said Hingst. "For this reason, we have, as the current investigation, no indication that there was a terrorist origin to this law."

She added that the motive is "always open" and "we investigate in every way."
