The hiring process begins today while Tacora Resources inc. Works at the reopening of the Scully mine in Wabush in June 2019.
That's what Premier Dwight Ball, who joined the company and local officials, made this announcement this morning at the Wabush Hotel in Labrador West.
The region was hard hit by Cliffs Natural Resources closing the mine in 2014, leaving hundreds of people unemployed.
The Minnesota-based Tacora mine bought the mine in July 2017. According to Premier Ball, the company expects an annual production of 6 million tonnes of concentrate at full exploitation.
It says 260 union and non-union positions and contracted services will be created with the restart.
The work leading to the announcement of today's recovery is called a "collaborative effort."
Tacora CEO Larry Lehtinen said the company raised $ 350 million for the reopening of the mine.
On a strange note, a shovel and an ax, leaning against the podium where the announcement was made, fell with a rattling as the press conference began.
