3 family members accused of alleged kidnapping, assault in Kingston, Ont.

Investigators say three family members were charged after a woman was reportedly kidnapped and abused for nearly a year.

Police say that the American woman came to Canada last year, married a man from Kingston, Ontario his residence, where he lived with his mother, father and brother.

Kingston Police states that during the eleven months, the woman was told that she could not leave the house without being accompanied by a member of her family. They claim that the family isolated him, monitored his appeals and withdrew his citizenship documents and jewels.

According to the police, family members became more and more violent towards the woman, threatening to kill her.

Investigators say that the woman escaped earlier this month after being burned with a pair of tongs and reported the incident to the police.

They say the husband of the 29-year-old woman and her 52-year-old mother. in law and 27 years

They face charges including kidnapping, badault and harbadment.
