A collision between an SUV and a train in rural Saskatchewan sent five people to the hospital.

The collision occurred northwest of Edenwold, at a location where railroads cross Highway 640, according to a police statement.

The five people in the vehicle, heading south, were transported to the hospital. One of them was seriously injured, police said.

A reconstruction investigator from the RCMP was on site, but the police announced that the investigation would be handed over to the CN Rail Police as soon as it arrived.

Edenwold is just over 30 kilometers northeast of Regina.
