A five-year-old boy with autism dies after being found in Calgary's pond

A five-year-old autistic boy who disappeared and was found unanswered in a detention pond died.

Emergency teams were called in the Saddle Ridge area around 5 pm. Friday for reports of a missing child, and shortly after the boy was found floating in the nearby water plane.

The boy was identified as Raheel Uddin. His parents, Rozina Mina and Mohammad Rashad Uddin, claim that Raheel was suffering from autism, suffered regular seizures and was nonverbal.

Raheel's uncle, Morshed Shah, told CTV Calgary that the boy had returned home excited. He went out with his father but the father lost Raheel's view on the trail.

His mother immediately called 911 after noticing that he had disappeared, and the police and neighbors helped the family search the area

. A bicycle pbader-by noticed the boy's body in the pond and went into the water to pull him out.

Emergency medical services said that the boy had been taken to hospital under life-threatening conditions. Police confirmed that he died at the hospital shortly after.

Raheel's mother said that she always took care of her son

"He did not understand as a five-year-old," Mina told CTV Calgary. tears. "I've always treated him like a six-month-old baby."

She says Raheel would communicate to the touch, or through the noises that he could make. He was very close to his family and Mina says that she has never been anywhere without him.

He realizes that he went even further.

"For me, I have the impression that he is still in school," Mina "I can not say that it's gone, for me, he is still alive."

The family asks the city to install fences or gates around the ponds of the city, to prevent another tragedy like this

"We lose our nephew, but we do not want to lose children anymore, "said his uncle Anisul Kabir.

Police say his investigation is underway.
