The prototype of the BMW X2 M35i rips the Nurburgring »AutoGuide News

A hot version of the BMW X2 could be on the way, with a prototype X2 tested recently at Nurburgring

In the video above, two different X2 prototypes are seen beating the Nurburgring. It is clear from the strong exhaust note that these are not normal X2s, with the engine emitting an aggressive sound accompanied by a loud bark when shifting to higher gear. It does not sound as loud as BMW's six-cylinder in-line engines, so it seems that the hot X2, which is said to be called M35i xDrive, will tap the 2.0-liter B48 turbocharged engine from BMW. The engine is expected to make about 300 hp in the sportier X2 and will be paired with BMW's fast-change eight-speed automatic transmission and the xDrive all-wheel drive system.

We do not know when the X2 M35i will arrive, but with many European manufacturers preparing for the start of the 2018 Paris World Cup, we would not be surprised to see it unveiled in the French capital when the show starts in October. If we do not see it there, a start at the 2018 Los Angeles Salon at the end of November is also a strong possibility. No matter where BMW chooses to display the X2 35i first, we do not think we will have to wait much longer to see it.

For now, you can listen to the prototypes shouting their tires in the integrated video above
