MediaTek added a new member to its Helio P System-on Chip family on Tuesday. P22 is the first 12nm SoC that will provide many new features to smartphone users. In addition, this new SoC will be an important member of the SoC Series P which consist of P23, P30 and P60. Here it is worth mentioning that P60 had debuted at MWC 2018 for midrange devices. This new Helio P22 is aimed at low-cost smartphones and will be available by the end of the second quarter of 2018. The company has already launched its production process. The Helio P22 has Cortex A-53 processing units. It will offer support for the installation of two cameras as well as AI enhancement features.

There are eight Cortex-A-53 cores in this SoC, each with a clock speed of 2.0 GHz. The SoC has the functions MediaTek Neuropilot for AI. It will support common AI frameworks such as TensorFlow, Caffe and Caffe2. There will be an automatic selection feature that will support advanced AI features like Face Unlock and Bokeh Mode. This chip can support two cameras for a combination of 13MP and 8MP with a frame rate of 30fps.

For high auto exposure, the company has integrated its 3A control unit and camera (CCU). With its capable hardware depth, the Helio P22 will bring real-time Bokeh insights to budget phones. Another very interesting feature of the Helio P22 chip is support for the 20: 9 format with 720×1600 HD resolution. Here, it is important to mention that smartphone manufacturers use 18: 9 aspect ratio on their devices. Helio P22 supports Bluetooth 5.0, 4 GNSS satellite, and 4G LTE on both SIM.

The official sources of the company say that Helio P22 will provide access to high-end features at minimal cost. They expect to win appliance manufacturers continuously. The use of Helio P22 will increase the customer database of smartphone manufacturers.
