A fire broke out in a row of businesses in the West Side of Vancouver on Thursday morning, damaging a popular Mexican restaurant
Smoke started coming out of a block of buildings containing the Topanga Cafe, near the corner of West 4th Avenue. and MacDonald Street in Kitsilano, around 5 am PST, according to Devon McGuire, who lives in a nearby building.
"We were sleeping and I woke up to the smell of smoke and heard fire alarms," McGuire said. So I went out on our terrace and I could smell the smoke, so I went back and said, "We have to leave here."
Bronwen Smith, a tenant who lives in the building above the Topanga Cafe, says that he threw on his shows and left as soon as the fire alarm went off.
"Everything is gone," said Smith. "It's just that you think about everything you have and it's gone."

Deputy Fire Chief Martin Paulson said more than 50 firefighters had been called in to fight the fire stubborn to prevent the spread in neighboring buildings. 19659002] Paulson stated that this type of dense construction made struggle difficult.
