OTTAWA – An investigation is underway after the arrest of a knife man, aged 24, following an incident on Parliament Hill Monday morning during the ceremony of the changing of the guard
. An incident occurred this morning at 10:15 am on the lawns of Parliament Hill, during the parade of the changing of the guard involving a man with a knife, said a spokesman for the SPP. The spokesman for the Department of National Defense told CTV News in a statement. "Because of the quick reaction of our soldiers, the RCMP and the Parliamentary Protective Services, the potential threat has been identified and neutralized. The spokesman said: [TRADUCTION] The man was turned over to the Ottawa police, who is investigating the incident, said the RCMP in a statement to CTV News. The Ottawa police said in a tweet of that a 24 year old man was being detained and that they had "no other details yet".
A source tells Michel Boyer of CTV News that the person He was arrested after acting unusually on the Hill during the ceremony, and a knife was found afterwards.
Defense Minister Harjit Sajjan was informed of the incident. "Relieved that no one was injured Thank you to all members of the Canadian Armed Forces, the RCMP and the Parliamentary Protective Services for their prompt response." Sajjan tweeted .
The Changing of the Guard ceremony takes place every day at 10 am on the lawn of Parliament Hill during the summer months
