While a thunder and a short-lived thunderstorm were moving through the valley, residents were leaving their work to find their cars covered in ashes Tuesday afternoon
.
Environment Canada reports that its models indicate that the smoke originates mainly from the great fire of the Snowy Mountains south of Keremeos.
As of Tuesday evening, the Okanagan-Similkameen Regional District has put 481 properties on evacuation alert in Lower Similkameen due to the threat of this forest fire.
The fire is still listed at 3,050 hectares, but is expected to increase due to Tuesday's aggressive behavior.
Across the Similkameen, Okanagan and Shuswap. A short rain shower was also observed in Kelowna, West Kelowna and Hedley.
