It is not uncommon nowadays that some popular Internet services fail. Most adults last a few hours at most. The last case that made users crazy is YouTube, which is up after about an hour. However, unless your livelihood depends on YouTube, it may not have had much real impact. When some Apple iCloud services, such as Documents, Backup, and even Sign-in, are down for almost half a day, you can be forgiven if you find it strange that the uproar did not make so much noise .
Certainly, all users of YouTube is larger than the users affected by the failure of Apple. However, affected cloud services are more critical than YouTube's. Which makes the silence of Apple more curious, if not disturbing.
The services involved include documents on iCloud, iCloud Player, photos, iCloud Mail, iCloud Calendar and even Find My iPhone. Since even iCloud Sign-in was down, it may not be important for those who still need to connect to the service.
Companies are wont to talk long about such failures, although YouTube has recognized the clamor of the Interwebs when it went dark last week. The only indication or admission of Apple is the service status page that explains how some users were performing below normal for the affected services.
The fact that the outage lasted for hours was definitely worrying for Apple's users and customers. The silence of the company in the face of such a breakdown could raise concerns about possible intrusions into security. Of course, if that was the case, Apple would be even more embarrbaded.
