TORONTO – Tyler Ardron and DTH van der Merwe are leading a list of 34 players nominated by Canada's Kingsley Jones coach for the Rugby World Cup Draft Tournament in Marseille, France.

The Canadian men, currently ranked 23rd in the world, will face 21st in Hong Kong, 28th in Kenya and 29th in Germany for the 20th and last place of the 2019 World Cup in Japan. The repechage round will run from November 11 to 23 at the Delort Stadium, with a capacity of 5,000 people.

Canada, which has never missed a World Cup, lost its qualification for the last chance for the first time after losing two playoff games against the United States Eagles in 15th place and Uruguay No. 18.

"The Rugby World Cup is the pinnacle of the match of the fifteen and it is vitally important for us to qualify," Jones said in a statement.

Ardon plays for the New Zealand Chiefs while van der Merwe is with the Glasgow Warriors in Scotland.

Jake Ilnicki, Brett Beukeboom, Evan Olmstead, Josh Larsen, Ciaran Hearn, Conor Trainor, Taylor Paris, Matt Evans and Shane O'Leary are also among the other professionals.

Canada will prepare for the tournament with a pair of matches in England against clubs – Oxford on October 31 and Coventry on November 5. Jones will then reduce his squad to 30 for the repechage.

"I am excited about the team we will be taking to Europe, all of our top professional players have spent the pre-season with their clubs and many are getting regular and excellent minutes in their respective competitions," Jones said. "Our players and national staff have worked tirelessly over the past nine months to be ready for November."

The winner of the tournament will be part of the Pool B pool alongside New Zealand, ranked first, South Africa No. 5, Italian No. 14 and No. 22 Namibian next autumn in Japan.

Canada has never played against Kenya and Germany. It's 5-1 of all time against Hong Kong.

Canada participated in the previous eight World Cups of the inaugural tournament held in New Zealand in 1987.
