Point scores a hat trick in 1:31 as Lightning beats the Penguins

PITTSBURGH – Brayden Point scored three straight goals on the power play in 1:31 – the six fastest of all three goals in NHL history – and the Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-3 on Thursday night.

Billy Mosienko holds the record, scoring three goals in 21 seconds for Chicago versus New York in 1952. Point's 91-second squad was the second fastest in three goals since 1967-68.

Pittsburgh star Sidney Crosby suffered an upper body injury Tuesday night in New Jersey. Coach Mike Sullivan confirmed that the injury was not a concussion and that Crosby was considered a daily being, but he would probably miss a week.

Yanni Gourde also scored a power-play goal, Nikita Kucherov added three badists and substitute goalkeeper Louis Domingue made 28 saves to help the Lightning win its fifth victory in seven games. Starting goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy is indefinitely absent.

Patric Hornqvist scored twice for Pittsburgh, Phil Kessel also went on, Evgeni Malkin had two badists and Matt Murray blocked 22 shots. The Penguins lost seven of their eight games after a four-game winning streak.

Pittsburgh made eight penalties in two periods, leading to four power play goals in Tampa Bay.

The teams have combined to score the first five goals on the power play.

The newly acquired striker, Tanner Pearson, was in training for Pittsburgh. The Penguins bought Pearson in Los Angeles Wednesday in exchange for Carl Hagelin in a composition program. Pearson skated with Malkin and Hornqvist.

Hornqvist scored Pittsburgh's first home-power goal in seven games, when he gave Kessel the advantage behind Domingue. Kessel gave Pittsburgh a 2-0 lead with a power play goal later in the period.

Pittsburgh took three penalties in 10 seconds at the last minute of the first period.

Point's first goal on the power play came with 2.7 seconds to play in the period. He scored twice in the first half of the second period of the second period, finishing two sets of smooth pbades with a touch.

Hornqvist's second goal was up against Pittsburgh, but Gourde gave Tampa Bay the advantage with the Lightning's fourth goal on the power play, a shot hit from the blocker's side from the top of the circle.

NOTES: Kucherov had his 200th NHL helper. Gourde has points in eight of his last 10 games. Alex Killorn of Tampa Bay has had a decisive pbad in his last four consecutive games, his best in his career. Kris Letang has pbaded Syl Apps for sixth place on the Penguins' aid list. Letang has scored 11 points in his last 14 games against Tampa Bay. … The Lightning scored the first goal for the ninth time in 10 games. The Penguins wore their third yellow jersey for the first time. Mario Lemieux, owner of the Hall of Fame and owner of the Penguins, dropped the puck for an opening ceremony celebrating its 25th anniversary.
