DETROIT (AP) – Defender Dustin Byfuglien scored his 500th career point by beating the tie with a 6:45 left margin. The Winnipeg Jets defeated the Detroit Red Wings 2-1 on Friday night.

Winnipeg won for the fourth time in five games. Kyle Connor scored in the second period and Laurent Brossoit stopped 27 shots.

Andreas Athanasiou scored for Detroit and Jimmy Howard made 38 saves. Red Wings defenseman Mike Green made his debut in the season after recovering from a virus that attacked his liver.

Byfuglien came in and beat Howard from the bottom of the right circle. Howard managed to shoot with his glove, but the puck fell into the goal.

Connor tied the score at 1 with a power-play goal with 3:46 left in the middle of the game. He returned a puck into an empty net in front of it.

It was Connor's fifth goal, originally from the suburbs of Detroit, Shelby Township.

The Jets dominated the Red Wings 21-4 in the second. Howard stopped Bryan Little on a breakaway with 7:38 to go and made a spectacular stop at Little Point with 4:17 left in the period.

Athanasiou's power play goal gave Detroit a 1-0 lead with 4:33 left in the first. He converted a single slap shot from the top of the right circle. It was the fourth goal of Athanasiou and his second in two games.

Detroit's Gustav Nyquist hit the crossbar early in the game and teammate Darren Helm scored the goalpost after a short-handed run with 2:25 remaining in the opening period.

NOTES: The Jets will play two games in Finland against the Florida Panthers next week. The Jacob Center of the Rose made its debut at the Red Wings after being claimed by the Montreal Canadiens during a waiver dispensation last week.
