At this point, nothing says how much the throwers will be exhausted. The teams set a record for the combined pitchers used in a World Series game: 18, not counting the Dodgers' Clayers Kershaw, who hit the bat in the 17th inning to add to the zanity of the night.
"The regular season, you probably expect some of them," said Kershaw, adding that the clubhouse chef has been making peanut butter and banana sandwiches for gamers over the hours. "You do not expect such a match in the World Series. It was really an amazing game.
Eduardo Nunez of Boston did not play until the 10th inning, but managed to fall to four different places: the box of the batters, after colliding with catcher Austin Barnes in the 13th; the dirt around the first base, after having slipped a few moments later; the third goal gets up after catching a fake pop and falling to the bottom of the sleeve; and the pitcher's mound, after a tricky catch on the 16th.
Cody Bellinger, center center player, doubled the ball on the fly and opened the ball to Nunez's 10th goal. Ian Kinsler, third goal, fell to the laser. Bellinger was chosen in ninth place by David Price, star of Boston's # 2 game, who was working on relief.
"I was happy to have had the chance to redeem myself," Bellinger said. "I could not sleep."
Before Muncy's, there were circuits at home – a solo shot by Joc Pederson of the Dodgers on Rick Porcello in round three, and another by Jackie Bradley Jr. of the Red Sox who tied the game against Kenley Jansen at the eighth. Jansen released Walker Buehler, the rookie coach, who was dazzled by seven shutouts.
"He has great things," said director Dave Roberts, "and he's living moments like this."
Only twice before, a pitcher had worked seven times without a goal in the World Series, scoring seven and giving two or fewer shots: Don Larsen in his perfect match of 1956 and Roger Clemens in 2000. Buehler joined the Yankees on Friday, stifling a solid lineup with the first two hitters, Mookie Betts and Xander Bogaerts, allied to go from 0 to 15.
