A suspect is in custody after a shootout in Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, police said.
A police official also said that there were "several victims", including three officers.
Police spokesman Chris Togneri said the police did not have any additional information at the moment, as she was still trying to clear the building and determine if other threats existed.
The synagogue is located at the intersection of Wilkins Avenue and Shady Avenue. The tree-lined residential area of Squirrel Hill, about 10 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh, is the center of the Jewish community of Pittsburgh.
In a tweet, President Donald Trump said that he was watching the shooting. Trump encouraged people to stay there and said "it looks like multiple deaths."
Pennsylvania's governor, Tom Wolf, tweeted that he was on the scene of the shooting and called it "absolute tragedy".
"These senseless acts of violence are not what we are as Americans," tweeted Wolf. "We must all pray and hope that there will be no more loss of life, but we have been saying for too long that it is too much, and dangerous weapons put our citizens at risk."
It's an absolute tragedy. These senseless acts of violence are not what we are as Americans. My thoughts are currently focused on the victims, their families, and ensuring that the law enforcement community has all the resources it needs.
