The incident occurred Sunday afternoon when a horse had sudden convulsions and, according to witnesses, began to cough uncontrollably.
The driver of the carriage asked his customers to get off the wagon shortly before the fall of the animal.
Police arrived immediately to control traffic, while other authorities removed the animal from St. John Road. near St. Sacrament Rd.
The SPCA arrived half an hour after the collapse and determined that the horse was already dead.
The provincial Department of Agriculture (MAPAQ) is currently investigating what has happened.
