THE BIG MATCHUP

Drake Batherson vs. Gustav Nyquist

Called up from the club’s AHL affiliate in Belleville on Monday, the rookie winger will make his NHL debut against the Wings. The 20-year-old Batherson had seven goals and 20 points in 14 games with Belleville. He’s going to get a chance to play with offensive players. Nyquist has two goals and 15 points with the Wings this season and he’s been a catalyst for a rebuilding Detroit franchise.

FIVE KEYS TO THE GAME

1 – STICKING WITH ANDY

Craig Anderson has already been declared the starter for this one. This will be his 17th appearance of the season after getting Sunday off in Florida. Anderson has given this team a chance to win every time he has stepped into the net.

2 – STRONG NUMBERS

Matt Duchene has been solid offensively for the Senators this season and it would be helpful if he continued to have success vs. the Wings. In 25 career games against the Wings, Duchene has 9-9-18 points.

3 – CLEAN UP YOUR ACT

The Senators have to stay out of the box by being disciplined. The club is ranked No. 31 overall in penalty killing and also gives up lot of scoring chances 5-on-5. It can’t afford to give the opposition opportunities.

4 – SUCCESS AT HOME

The Senators open a three-game homestand that continues Saturday against the Pittsburgh Penguins. The club has a 5-3-2 record at the Canadian Tire Centre this season and, for the most part, has played well on home ice.

5 – SCORE FIRST

This is an area the Senators have struggled with for a long time. The club is 4-3-2 when opening the scoring this season and 3-5-1 when allowing the opponent on the board first. Getting on the board early is good for confidence.
