WINTER STORM AND SNOW WARNINGS

We are still in a few weeks of winter, but the warnings that cover part of Quebec would suggest otherwise. Heavy snowfall and strong winds triggered winter storm warnings in the Quebec City area on Tuesday morning, with a drop of about 15 to 20 cm expected until Wednesday.

"In addition, the snow will be accompanied by strong to strong eastern winds late this afternoon and tonight," said Environment Canada in the warning. "The rapid accumulation of snow could make traveling difficult on some sites, visibility can be suddenly reduced by heavy snow."

Police officials reported reacting to 10 collisions during morning commutes in the area, but no major injuries were reported.

Further north, we expect even bigger snowfall, with mbadive accumulations of more than 50 cm possible around Charlevoix until Wednesday evening.

"Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve," warns EC. "The rapid accumulation of snow will make traveling difficult, visibility can be suddenly reduced by heavy snow."

The Charlevoix school board closed the schools on Tuesday as the snow began to accumulate quickly.

Snow warnings for the Montreal and Laval areas ended Tuesday at 5:00 pm, although wet snow and slippery conditions led to shorter travel times.
