TORONTO – Alessia Cara said she was moving away from her social media after the recent wave of negative comments.

The pop singer, recipient of a Grammy, went on Instagram Monday night to share a number of screenshots of her Twitter account showing users criticizing her appearance and pulling obscenities on her .

The singer says that the comments reflect "a much bigger problem" with online bullying.

Cara, who grew up in Brampton, Ontario, says that the separation created by the computer and phone screens minimizes the "severity of words" in online conversations.
