Artemi Panarin plans to meet with his agent in January to discuss his future with the Columbus Blue Jackets.
"Artemi and I are going to sit down to discuss business when it's ready," said Constable Dan Milstein at Columbus Dispatch
The 27-year-old is in the final year of a two-year contract with the Chicago Blackhawks on December 28, 2016. He is entitled to sign a contract extension with the Blue Jackets since 1st of July. said he would not discuss a contract during the season, as both parties failed to reach an agreement before the September training camp.
"He's really happy with the way things are going this season," said Milstein. "We will talk business during his break (in January)."
Columbus will have a five-day mandatory leave from January 20 to 24, followed by Honda's 2019 All-Star Game on January 25 and 26. The future of Panarin could involve being traded before the NHL expires for the 2019 exchange (Feb. 25 at 3 pm ET).
Panarin leads the Blue Jackets with 26 points (six goals, 20 badists) this season.
"For now, there is no pressure from the club," Milstein said. "It's a matter of victory for the team."
The Blue Jackets (14-8-2) occupy second place in the metropolitan division and host the Minnesota Wild on Thursday (at 7 pm ET, FS-O, FS-WI, NHL.TV) .
