The same Ottawa police detectives who accused his brother of two counts of first-degree murder in various homicides are now investigating Black Friday's murder of Yonis Barkhadle.
Yonis, 27, was shot dead several times in a targeted attack by police around 18.20. Friday in a crowded parking lot at South Keys Shopping Center. He was found with several gunshot wounds in a lot on the north side of the mall. The homicide itself occurred in the CIBC parking lot, adjacent to OC Transpo's Greenboro transit station. Yonis was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Yonis, also known as "Yoshi", is one of the three well-known Barkhadle brothers of the police in this city.
His older brother Mohamad Barkhadle, a crack merchant, was charged by the Ottawa Police Homicide Squad with strangling a 35-year-old woman in his apartment on Burnside Avenue in March 2017. The woman, whose name is protected by a publication ban, was killed while her two-year-old son was inside the apartment, where he remained alone for 10 days before 39, a building maintenance officer discovers the body of his mother.

In prison at the Ottawa-Carleton Detention Center, police charged Mohamad Barkhadle with a second murder after his imprisoned mate Marco Michaud – also an alleged killer – was reportedly beaten, beaten and left the ring in April 2018 In May, Michaud had lost his life support.
The older brother Ismail Barkhadle was arrested alongside Yonis during a raid conducted in 2014 in a house of Heron Gate, suspected by police of being taken in charge by eight men involved in criminal activities . Ismail has been charged with several gun and kidnapping crimes.
Yonis, meanwhile, has been charged with possession of narcotics for the purposes of trafficking, possession of drugs, possession of proceeds of crime and forcible confinement. Later that year, he was found guilty only of being illegally in a dwelling with the intention of committing a crime and failing to comply with the previous conditions set by the court.
In September of this year, he was convicted of possession of drugs.
Until his death, the police estimated that Yonis was linked to drug trafficking and gang activity in the south of the city.
The murdered man was scheduled to appear in court on Friday for failing to appear for an earlier date.
Police continue to investigate his murder on the 17th of the year. No arrests were made.
