A robbery suspect died as a result of an altercation with three citizens who prevented him from fleeing the scene of a robbery, the Montreal police said.
Police consider death a homicide. The victim, aged 34, is the suspect in the robbery of a convenience store in the borough of Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, Const. Raphael Bergeron said.
The man was running away with money when three men arrested him late Tuesday night, he said.
Police initially described the incident as an armed robbery, but Bergeron has since said that investigators were still working to determine if the man had a weapon when he asked for it. ;money.
Police arrived at the scene after a 911 caller reported a fight on Nicolet Street near Ontario East at 8:45 pm.

When the officers arrived, they located a group of people holding the unconscious man in an alley.
The man was rushed to hospital in critical condition where he died as a result of his injuries.
Police say that the exact nature of the victim's injuries has not yet been determined, but it seems that no weapon has been used. An autopsy will be performed.
The three men, aged 37, 48 and 78, are now considered "important witnesses," Bergeron said. They were arrested by police early Wednesday morning for interrogation by investigators.
The police will determine if any of the three, or all three, will become suspicious in the case after their interrogation.
"It's considered a homicide because of the circumstances surrounding the event," Bergeron said, recommending people to call the police rather than intervene themselves in cases like this one.
This is the 28th homicide committed by the city in 2018. There were 24 in 2017.
